Ethical Research Involving Children

Research involving children is vital to understanding how we can improve children’s lives. The field is rapidly expanding and breaking into new areas. But how can we ensure that approaches are ethically sound and that the views and perspectives of children are fully respected alongside the fundamental need to advance human knowledge?

To confront these issues, UNICEF’s Office of Research and a group of partners have completed a project to develop resources for the international research community that will improve understandings and approaches to working with children. Whilst a range of materials relating to research for children is available, it was felt important to bring together the latest thinking in a more explicit framework underpinned by ethical principles and that can be applied across disciplines.

The Ethical Research Involving Children Project is specifically designed to provide a rich repository of evidence-based information and resources to guide and improve research involving children and to provide a platform for further critical reflection and dialogue.
