New Web Portal on Economic Trends and Child Poverty

UNICEF IRC /2011 - Child Impact banner

In 2008, amid the global food price crisis, UNICEF initiated a project to generate empirical evidence on the impact of the crisis on children and to inform policy advocacy for timely responses. On 7 July, IRC and the UNICEF Division of Policy and Practice launched a web portal that brings together analytical tools and methodologies to present an evidence base for action.

The tools provide policymakers, child rights advocates, academics and practitioners with the means to anticipate and tailor timely and effective responses to crises, economic shocks and policy reforms, and to analyse economic trends. The portal provides links to complementary initiatives underway across UNICEF, linking research with data-collection tools such as ChildInfo and with policy advocacy initiatives that seek to ensure that countries give priority attention to children's issues.
