Reservations and declarations
Texts of reservations and declarations with respect to the principles and provisions of the Convention on the Rights of the Child dealing with the proper administration of juvenile justice, in particular Articles 37 and 40, which were made by States parties on ratification or accession.

Preparatory documents
The drafting of the Convention on the Rights of the Child took place within the context of the United Nations (UN), and in particular in a working group set up by the UN Commission on Human Rights in 1979. This followed the Polish Government's proposal to the UN Commission on Human Rights, in 1978, to adopt a convention on the rights of the child. The official name of the drafting body was the open-ended Working Group on the Question of a Convention on the Rights of the Child. The Working Group started its work in 1979. In December 1988 (eleventh session) the Working Group completed its final draft text of the Convention. This final text was subsequently put forward to, respectively, the UN Commission on Human Rights, the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), and the UN General Assembly for discussion and approval. The Convention on the Rights of the Child was unanimously adopted by the UN General Assembly on 20 November 1989. Here follows an overview of the drafting history of the Juvenile Justice provisions of the Convention on the Rights of the Child (articles 37 and 40), and contains a compilation of the main United Nations documents concerning the drafting process.
