On May 25th, 2022, the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office of the United Kingdom (FCDO), Wellspring Philanthropic Fund, the Sexual Violence Research Initiative (SVRI), and UNICEF, co-hosted a virtual partner roundtable discussion entitled: A Gender-Transformative, Life-Course Approach to Ending Violence Against Girls, Boys and Women.

During this event, different partners shared the latest evidence about risk factors that are at the root of both violence against children and violence against women, as well as coordinated approaches to violence prevention and response. Part of the discussion explored how various organizations (including donors) are translating emerging evidence into action, their approaches to addressing both forms of violence, and the challenges and opportunities involved in these endeavors. Overall, the event enabled an earnest discussion about lessons learned and key strategies for coordinating efforts and thus maximizing efforts to address both forms of violence.

Violence against children

More than half the world’s children report having experienced some form of violence in a previous year. Combined with what we know about the negative consequences of violence on children’s health and wellbeing, its impacts on education and the economy, and its long-lasting effects throughout childhood and well into adulthood, it is crucial that evidence-informed actions are taken at all levels to end VAC.
