What is the prognosis for the pandemic? Are we going to have to learn to live with a permanent plague as WHO’s Special Envoy Dr David Nabarro predicted a year ago on Leading Minds? He’s back on Wednesday 27th October to give us a roadmap on how to get COVID under control and will be joined by the African Union’s Special Envoy and philanthropist Strive Masiyiwa – a Zimbabwean business mogul who has accused the rich world of vaccine apartheid. Both our panelists are spearheading global efforts to bridge the divide, speed up the supply chain, and get the world ready to tackle new variants as one corner of the world’s population moves on to third jabs while another corner has yet to receive even their first dose.

David Nabarro has made his career in the international civil service working for the Secretary-General of the United Nations and the Director-General of the World Health Organization. He is Strategic Director of the social enterprise 4SD (Skills Systems and Synergies for Sustainable Development) and co-chair of the forum on Climate Change and Health. He is the Special Envoy of WHO Director General on COVID-19.

Strive Masiyiwa currently serves as African Union Special Envoy helping coordinate Africa’s private sector efforts to procure medical supplies and fight the spread of COVID-19. He also heads up the Africa Vaccine Acquisition Task Team and isFounder and Executive Chairman of Econet, a pan-African technology company. Strive and his wife Tsitsi co-founded the Higherlife Foundation which has supported the education of over 250,000 orphaned, vulnerable and gifted children across Africa, as well as other programmes.
