Alternative care

Note:
Article 20(2) of the CRC accords to children temporarily or permanently deprived of their family environment, or in whose own best interests cannot be allowed to remain in that environment, the right to alternative care. States Parties are required to ensure alternative care for such children in accordance with their national laws. Article 20(3) of the CRC provides that alternative care could include, inter alia, foster placement, kafala of Islamic law, adoption or if necessary placement in suitable institutions for the care of children.
