Petrina Lee Poy

Dr. Petrina Lee Poy is a specialist in population, reproductive, and maternal and child health. She holds a PhD in Demography from Université de Montréal and a Master in Public Health from Columbia University. She brings a multidisciplinary perspective with her training in the fields of public health and demography. This gives her a useful advantage in assessing global health issues. Her background in demography has provided her with the necessary skills to collate, review and analyse quantitative information and make it accessible and understandable to non-statisticians. Dr. Lee Poy has worked mainly in Africa and Latin America and the Caribbean. For over 25 years she has been providing technical and evaluative assistance to the United Nations, in particular UNFPA, and other international development agencies designing, implementing, and assessing public health initiatives. As concerns child marriage and FGM, she was a consultant for the UNFPA Programme to End Female Genital Mutilation and is the author of “Why addressing child marriage and adolescent pregnancy is essential to achieving the demographic dividend in West and Central Africa -Position Paper”.
