+ - Cite this publication | No. of pages: 64 | Thematic area: Gender Issues | Tags: children's rights, gender based violence, gender discrimination, gender issues, gender roles, social norms, violence against children, violence against women, women's empowerment, women's rights × COPY BIBLIOGRAPHIC CITATION 2010 La dynamique du changement social: vers l'abandon de l'excision/mutilation génitale fémine dans cinq pays africains. , pp. 64.

Innocenti Insights Children in Immigrant Families in Eight Affluent Countries: Their family, national and international context Published: 2009 Innocenti Insights During recent decades most affluent countries have experienced large increases in the number and diversity of immigrants, and accordingly it is anticipated that children in immigrant families will play an increasing role in these societies. However, while their social, economic and civic integration is of critical policy relevance, there is little statistical evidence available on this segment of the population. The study helps to fill the knowledge gap by presenting internationally comparable statistics on children in immigrant families in eight affluent countries - Australia, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and the United States. The analysis examines family composition, educational background, language, educational and employment status of parents, housing conditions, school and labour market participation and poverty status, among other dimensions, identifying disparities between the situation of these children and that of native-born children. The report calls for policies that facilitate integration and social inclusion of children in immigrant families, focusing particularly on those from low- and middle-income countries who often face greater challenges in assimilation. + - Cite this publication | No. of pages: 154 | Thematic area: Migration | Tags: child poverty, child well-being, education, health, housing, migrant children, migrant families × COPY BIBLIOGRAPHIC CITATION 2009 Children in Immigrant Families in Eight Affluent Countries: Their family, national and international context. , pp. 154.
Innocenti Insights South Asia in Action: Preventing and responding to child trafficking. Child rights-based programme practices Published: 2008 Innocenti Insights This publication acknowledges the adoption of many international standards and the promotion of regional agreements. At the same time, legislation against trafficking is often considered within the broader context of criminalizing prostitution, addressing organized crime and controlling migration. Although these are important issues, a focus only on these perspectives fails to adequately address the full complexity and dynamics of human trafficking, and fails to give distinct consideration to child trafficking. Existing laws therefore need to be amended and new laws enacted to fully conform with international standards. + - Cite this publication | No. of pages: 37 | Thematic area: Child Protection | Tags: child protection, child trafficking, implementation of the crc, law enforcement × COPY BIBLIOGRAPHIC CITATION 2008 South Asia in Action: Preventing and responding to child trafficking. Etemadi; Teresa Banaynal Fernandez; Rosemarie Matias Fernandez; Marita Castro Guevara; silvio garatini; Ching Li Ye; Eunice Anne M. Enriquez; Careza P. Reyes Published: 2006 Innocenti Insights The study analyses how the Philippines’ national Child Friendly Movement, which has engaged government, NGOs, civil society, children and UNICEF, has enhanced the capacity of local governments, communities and young people to fulfil the rights of the poorest children. The study uses participatory methodologies and reflects the viewpoint of children and the community. It reveals that in areas where the Child Friendly Cities strategy was adopted, greater attention is paid to the most excluded and vulnerable groups and interventions are developed on a wider spectrum of children’s rights. Beyond providing insights on concrete ways in which child rights are bring promoted at local level, it provides recommendations on how the fulfilment of child rights can be further enhanced by municipal governments. + - Cite this publication | No. of pages: 57 | Thematic area: Child Protection | Tags: aids, child care, child headed families, child protection, hiv, right to appropriate standards of care, right to care and protection, right to parental care × COPY BIBLIOGRAPHIC CITATION 2006 Protégeons les enfants touchés par le VIH et le SIDA. , pp. 57.
Innocenti Insights Caring for Children Affected by HIV and AIDS Published: 2006 Innocenti Insights This IRC Insight highlights the urgent need to support families and communities to care for children orphaned by HIV/AIDS. The report looks at how the epidemic undermines children's health and schooling, and reinforces marginalization and deprivation. It explores the options for the care of children in communities affected by the AIDS epidemic. Beginning with the premise that the parent-child bond is the basic building block of child development and the family the basic unit of society, the report looks at ways to keep the family together for as long as possible. It then goes on to explore alternative care arrangements beyond the immediate family. Settings range from care by the extended family, to different forms of fostering in the community, through adoption and placement in residential institutions, which should be used as a last resort. + - Cite this publication | No. of pages: 53 | Thematic area: Child Protection | Tags: aids, child care, child headed families, child protection, hiv, right to appropriate standards of care, right to care and protection, right to parental care × COPY BIBLIOGRAPHIC CITATION 2006 Caring for Children Affected by HIV and AIDS. , pp. 53.
+ - Cite this publication | No. of pages: 63 | Thematic area: Child Protection | Tags: aids, child care, child headed families, child protection, hiv, right to appropriate standards of care, right to care and protection, right to parental care × COPY BIBLIOGRAPHIC CITATION 2006 Protegiendo a la infancia afectada por el VIH y el SIDA. , pp. 63.
