Innocenti Research Report Drivers of Primary School Dropout in Mozambique: Longitudinal assessment of school dropout in 2019 AUTHOR(S) Javier Santiago Ortiz Correa; Rafael Pontuschka; Jessica Bergmann; Thomas Dreesen; Zlata Bruckauf Published: 2022 Innocenti Research Report The Avaliação Longitudinal da Desistência Escolar (ALDE, Longitudinal Assessment of School Dropout) is the first nationally representative mixed-method longitudinal survey in Mozambique. Since 2018, the ALDE survey has annually collected longitudinal, nationally representative data from around 5,400 primary school students (from grades 1 to 7) in 60 schools across all eleven provinces in the country. This report presents the results of the quantitative data collected in 2019 and focuses on the determinants of school dropouts in the country. When children leave school prematurely, not only is their learning interrupted, but the trajectories of their future opportunities and lives are forever altered. This report explores the multidimensional process of school dropouts, investigating how individual, household, community and school-level factors interact to lead children in Mozambique to dropout of education. Through this analysis, the report provides important and actionable recommendations to improve education policy in Mozambique towards its journey to achieve learning for every child. + - Cite this publication | No. of pages: 67 | Thematic area: Education | Tags: child education, child labour, child safety, drop-outs, education, gender issues, hygiene, mozambique, safety, sanitation, teachers, water × COPY BIBLIOGRAPHIC CITATION Javier Santiago Ortiz Correa; Rafael Pontuschka; Jessica Bergmann; Thomas Dreesen; Zlata Bruckauf 2022 Drivers of Primary School Dropout in Mozambique: Longitudinal assessment of school dropout in 2019. , pp. 67.
Innocenti Research Report Non-State Education in South Asia: Understanding the effect of non-state actors on the quality, equity and safety of education service delivery AUTHOR(S) Artur Borkowski; Bindu Sunny; Juliana Zapata Published: 2021 Innocenti Research Report Education systems in South Asia are complex and fragmented. Despite high engagement and involvement of Non-State Actors (NSA) in education, there is a lack of comprehensive policy to govern them. Achieving better learning outcomes for children in South Asia requires understanding the wide variety of NSA providers and unpacking how these different actors engage with and influence education provision. Through a meta-analysis of existing evidence, this report presents findings on learning outcomes in public and non-state schools and the implications on quality, equity and safety of education delivery in the region. It also uncovers critical gaps in evidence that need to be addressed to show what is really working, for whom, where and at what cost. + - Cite this publication | No. of pages: 239 | Tags: child education, education, equity, inequity, policy and planning, safety, safety education, south asia × COPY BIBLIOGRAPHIC CITATION Artur Borkowski; Bindu Sunny; Juliana Zapata 2021 Non-State Education in South Asia: Understanding the effect of non-state actors on the quality, equity and safety of education service delivery. , pp. 239.
Innocenti Publications Child Safety Online: Global challenges and strategies. Technical Report Published: 2012 Innocenti Publications Expanding Internet access for all children and young people without discrimination and exclusion in all parts of the world, together with promoting digital citizenship and responsibility, ought to be critical objectives for policymakers concerned with enhancing opportunities for children. The study primarily addresses two issues: child sex abuse recorded in images; and the grooming of young people for sex. A third issue, cyberbullying, emerging from much research as an issue of particular significance to children, is also touched on in this report. There are many knowledge gaps about the protection challenges raised by the Internet, particularly in parts of the world where its penetration is so far more limited. There has been significant work undertaken to analyse children’s online behaviour and investments made in strategies to address and prevent abuse in parts of Asia, across Europe and the United States of America. But there has been less exploration of online child abuse and exploitation across many low- and middle-income countries. + - Cite this publication | No. of pages: 160 | Thematic area: Child Protection, Children's Participation, Governance, Social Policies | Tags: child protection, safety, technological change, telecommunications × COPY BIBLIOGRAPHIC CITATION 2012 Child Safety Online: Global challenges and strategies.
