Research is conducted by virtually all UNICEF offices around the world to drive programmes and policy advocacy for children. Innocenti’s mandate includes support of UNICEF’s capacity to generate and make use of research on children in programming and advocacy. Innocenti works on the development of quality standards, analytical tools, and mechanisms to enhance knowledge sharing and broker good research practice. Research supported by UNICEF takes place across a wide range of contexts, follows thematic priorities defined in the Strategic Plan 2014-2017 and accommodates varying levels of research capacity.
Innocenti contributes to strengthening overarching minimum standards for all UNICEF research by improving ethical standards of research on children, improving quality assurance measures in all stages of the research cycle, producing methodological briefs and research syntheses, granting recognition to quality research efforts, and support of capacity building from research design and methods through to research uptake and impact.
