Proposals involving research that involves non-universal distribution of resources (e.g. randomised control trials involving the provision of goods or services, to one group and not to another group) and primary data collection from anyone, particularly people who’s agency is limited (due to age or capability) on sensitive subjects (e.g. violence, abuse, health status) must go through an ethical review process. These papers provide background information on what was submitted to the review boards of Universities of Cape Town and Oxford, the research protocol that was published and the letters of approval that were received by the Sinovuyo Teen Parenting Programme research team.
