How #CashPlus is Changing Lives in #Tanzania
Research by UNICEF and government partners is showing how Tanzania’s cash plus programme helps young people to grow into healthy and productive adults through training, mentoring, grants, and health services. In the short term, cash plus improved knowledge of HIV prevention services, increased use of HIV testing services and participation in the economy, and improved gender-equitable attitudes among young people. It also decreased rates of sexual violence and physical violence perpetration, reduced symptoms of depression, and improved self-esteem. However, results show that the programme needs to be modified to ensure youth can prioritize school completion over economic activities. As cash plus continues to improve the lives of the poor, UNICEF generates evidence which supports governments to develop and improve cash plus programmes.
